Utagawa Kunisada
歌川国貞 (Utagawa Kunisada, 1786–1865) — Edo's most prolific printmaker and its most bankable. While Kuniyoshi chased rebels and Hiroshige followed the seasons, Kunisada painted what people actually wanted to buy: kabuki's biggest stars at their most theatrical, rendered in the saturated colour that made Edo look like it was permanently lit for performance.
