Toyohara Kunichika
豊原国周 (Toyohara Kunichika, 1835–1900) — the last great kabuki print master of the Edo era, working as the tradition was dying and producing some of its most kinetic work. Where earlier yakusha-e artists captured composed theatrical moments, Kunichika caught actors mid-performance — expressions twisted, bodies coiled, colour pushed to its loudest possible register.
