Keisai Eisen
渓斎英泉 (Keisai Eisen, 1790–1848) — the floating world's most unsentimental chronicler. Where other bijin-ga artists idealised, Eisen observed — his courtesans and beauties have a specificity and psychological weight that sets them apart from the genre's more flattering conventions. He also wrote extensively about ukiyo-e culture, making him one of its most useful historians.
