The fox who devoured the west. Mōri Motonari was one of the supreme strategists of the Warring States — a warlord who rose from a minor house to swallow nearly all of western Japan through cunning, patience, and a ruthlessness dressed up as wisdom. And here's another thread into your collection: Motonari is the very man who crushed the Amago clan — the same fallen house that Yamanaka Yukimori, over in your Warriors, spent his entire doomed life trying to raise from the dead. One man's masterstroke is another man's lifelong grief.

On stage he becomes a kabuki role, the great schemer given theatrical flesh by Asao Gakujūrō I. 

The play writes his name 元成, while the historical warlord is 毛利元就 — same reading, "Motonari," but altered characters. That's almost certainly deliberate, dodging the shogunate's ban on depicting real recent warlords by nudging the kanji just off-true.
